ESL Week 2010

TEAL is once again pleased to announce that our annual conference coincides with the proclamation of English as an Additional Language Awareness Week in B.C. This will help to raise awareness of all the great work that language instructors do here in British Columbia.

The proclamation by the Attorney General of British Columbia is as follows:

To all to whom these presents shall come - Greeting

WHEREAS the province of British Columbia is renowned for its multiculturalism, and

WHEREAS over the past four decades, immigrants have added to our province's diversity by bringing their culture, customs and heritage which has resulted in a rich blend of various traditions and languages, and

WHEREAS learners of English as a second language are represented by a large cross section of individuals that includes students of elementary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, public and private schools, and adult education students, all pursuing literacy and basic skills, and

WHEREAS the professional organization of British Columbia Teachers of English as an Additional Language (TEAL) is hosting their 42nd annual conference on April 30 and May 1,2010 at the British Columbia Institute of technology (BCIT, downtown campus) consisting of workshops, presentations and plenary speakers to continue and develop the skills and abilities of its members, and

WHEREAS Our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, has been pleased to enact Order in Council 903 on October 11,2002;

NOW KNOW YE THAT We do by these presents proclaim and declare that the week of April 25 to May 1, 2010, inclusive, shall be known as

"ESL Week"

in the Province of British Columbia.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Our Province to be hereunto affixed.

WITNESS, The Honourable Lance Finch, Administrator of Our Province of British Columbia, in Our City of Vancouver, in Our Province, this fifteenth day of February, two thousand ten and in the fifty ninth year of Our Reign.
